Motorsports Spectacular Figure 8 Demo Derby Races & Thrill Show in Kalispell Sept. 7th
KALISPELL, MT. People of all ages will be excited for a new show format to come to the Valley. The most entertainment for the dollar is the MONSTER MOTORSPORTS SPECTACULAR. Checkered Flag Promotions returns to the FLATHEAD COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS on September 7th after being away for over 15 years! Spectators who have heard about the event are getting tickets early, there is only one chance to see this incredible new event which features several parts including cars crashing, in a Figure 8 Demolition Derby Race!
Figure 8 Demolition Derby racing combines elements of oval track racing, and demolition derby. The races are run on a track that’s shaped like – wait for it – the number eight, so they combine racing with wrecking. Because the two circles of the track cross, drivers must power through oncoming traffic to be the leader and win. The downside of going as fast as you can around the track is that everyone else is doing the same thing, and when two speeding cars meet … well, you know what happens. Figure 8 drivers have to have the skills to drive fast and be alert enough to avoid a collision on a track that’s built for crashes.
Racing is done on a track shaped like an 8. The cars cross paths at the center of the 8, which is known as the “crossover”. Because of this layout, crashes are inevitable. Figure 8 racing is a unique sport that requires strict attention to timing to successfully navigate the crossover squeaking by without a scratch. Most drivers are not that lucky.
Most of the competitors will have competed in the local County Fair demolition derby. Checkered Flag’s officials structured the rules for this event, so cars are already built for the demo derby in Kalispell have rules for Figure 8 are inclusive of local Demolition Derby car rules. The promoters want the locals to be able to race without costing them allot of money to change up their cars.
Competition is hottest as the cars circle the track in the final laps when drivers throw caution to the wind and “Go for it!” Get your cameras ready there is going to be a Crash!
